Study and work in Germany and Europe.

Arfion Consultancy advises students applying to universities in Germany and across Europe, professionals moving into industry roles — with particular depth in biotech and pharma — and companies that need reliable scientific data and content. Every engagement is handled by an advisor who has worked in the field in question, not by a call centre.

Three service lines, one practice. Most clients arrive through one peak and come back through another — a student who becomes a graduate hire, a company that first commissioned a white paper.

What we do

Three service lines, built around the same industry knowledge.

Admissions advice is only useful if it is grounded in what employers actually hire for. Career support is only useful if it comes from someone who has read the CVs from the other side of the table. That link is the whole point of the practice.

Where students go

Six destinations, compared on what a degree actually costs.

Most consultancies rank countries by tuition alone. The number that matters is the total across the study period and the year after it, weighed against how long you are allowed to stay and work once you graduate.

Germany

Tuition / yr€0–3,000
Living / mo€800–1,100
After study18 months

The default for biotech and engineering. Public universities charge administrative fees rather than tuition — but APS, a blocked account and language are real hurdles.

Netherlands

Tuition / yr€9,000–18,000
Living / mo€900–1,300
After study1 year

Strong English-taught programmes and dense life-science clusters. Expensive, and student housing in the larger cities is genuinely hard to find.

Ireland

Tuition / yr€10,000–25,000
Living / mo€1,100–1,600
After study2 years

The longest stay-back in Europe and a concentrated pharmaceutical manufacturing base. Highest total cost — but the two years change the return on it.

France

Tuition / yr€243–3,770
Living / mo€900–1,400
After study12 months

Very low public tuition and a serious pharmaceutical industry. French matters more than most applicants expect once they start job-hunting.

Italy

Tuition / yr€900–4,000
Living / mo€700–1,100
After study1 year

The lowest living costs of the group and generous regional scholarships. A weaker graduate market in the sciences, so better as a route into the EU than a destination.

Poland

Tuition / yr€2,000–4,000
Living / mo€500–800
After studyPermit route

The lowest total cost in the EU, with a growing pharmaceutical manufacturing base. Programme quality varies widely and is worth checking closely.

Figures are indicative for 2026 and vary by city and institution. Which of these suits you is settled by three questions: what you can commit in total, whether you intend to stay and work afterwards, and whether you will learn the language.

The winter-intake year Germany · working backwards from October
JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP OCT NOV DEC Apply for APS ~4 WEEKS TO ISSUE Shortlist & documents uni-assist deadline 15 JULY Blocked account & visa Semester begins OCTOBER
The single most common reason an application fails is starting APS too late. Everything downstream — offers, blocked account, visa appointment — depends on a certificate that takes about four weeks to issue and longer in peak season.

Medicine · Dentistry · Pharmacy

Medicine abroad, judged on whether the degree can be used afterwards.

We maintain a comparison of English-taught medicine, dentistry and pharmacy programmes across twenty-two countries in Europe and its near neighbours. We do not publish it. A list of universities is not advice, the figures in it change, and the question that decides a family's future is not which programmes exist — it is which of them lead anywhere. What we can set out here is how we read it.

Before anything else: will the degree be registrable in India?

A medical degree earned abroad is only worth what it permits you to do afterwards. Under India's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, a qualification is registrable only if it satisfies every one of the following. Fail one, and the degree cannot be registered here at all — however much it cost and however good the teaching was.

NEET, before admission

The applicant must have qualified NEET-UG before taking admission abroad. A university's own entry bar is irrelevant to this — many overseas institutions will admit a student who cannot later register in India.

Course length

The academic programme must run at least 54 months. Accelerated or shortened courses, however they are marketed, do not satisfy the requirement.

Internship, in the same place

A twelve-month clinical internship is required, completed at the same institution and in the same country as the degree. Programmes that send students elsewhere for clinical training create a serious problem.

Taught in English throughout

Teaching and examination must be in English for the whole course. Programmes described as English-taught that switch to the local language for clinical years are a common and costly trap.

Five questions worth asking before any deposit is paid

  1. Is the university listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, and is that listing current rather than historic?
  2. What proportion of this university's Indian graduates pass the screening examination? Ask for the figure, not an assurance.
  3. Is the language of instruction English in the clinical years as well as the pre-clinical ones?
  4. Where does the internship take place, and is it at the same institution?
  5. What exactly does the quoted fee include — and what does it not? Agent packages frequently bundle hostel, food and insurance into a single figure that looks like tuition.

The number nobody volunteers. Indian graduates of foreign medical schools must pass a screening examination before they can practise in India. Pass rates differ enormously between universities — at some institutions that recruit heavily in India, fewer than half of graduates clear it, and at a few the figure is nearer a third. A family weighing two universities on tuition alone can easily choose the one where the degree is least likely to become a career. We look this figure up for every institution we would put in front of a student, and we tell you what it says.

What we do is narrower and more useful than a list: we take one student's marks, budget and tolerance for risk, and produce a shortlist of programmes that satisfy the registration rules, with the real total cost, the recognition position and the pass-rate record for each. Where the honest answer is that a family should not pursue medicine abroad at all, we say so.

Regulatory requirements and screening arrangements change. The position above reflects the rules as we understand them at the time of writing; we verify the current position for every student before any application is made.

The practice

A small consultancy, staffed by people from the industry itself.

Arfion is an independent advisory practice working across education, careers and scientific content in the life sciences. It is deliberately small: every engagement is handled directly by an advisor with working experience of the field in question, and no enquiry passes through a sales desk.

The practice is registered in India and advises clients across India, Europe and the Middle East. Its advisors are based in Germany and have been through the same application systems, immigration processes and hiring rounds their clients are facing.

Behind the advice sits more than eighteen years in biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing at doctoral level — material qualification, technology transfer, downstream processing and analytical development, working across quality, regulatory affairs and external manufacturing partners, including the leadership of EU-funded research programmes and international technology transfers. That is the vantage point from which admissions advice can be grounded in what employers actually hire for, rather than in rankings.

Most advice in this field is written by people who have never sat in a deviation meeting. That is the gap this practice exists to close.

Advisory network

Every advisor has studied and worked in Germany.

Guidance comes from people who have been through the same application system, the same immigration office and the same job market — not from a counsellor who has only read about it. Advisors are added only where they cover a discipline or a route the practice does not already.

Questions

Before you get in touch.

Do you guarantee admission or a job offer?

No, and be careful with anyone who does. What we can do is make sure your application, documents and interview preparation are as strong as your actual profile allows, and tell you honestly when a target is unrealistic so you can spend your effort somewhere better.

Do you only work with life-science applicants?

Life sciences, pharmacy, biotechnology, chemistry and adjacent engineering fields are where the advice is strongest, because that is where the industry experience sits. Enquiries outside those fields are taken only if we can genuinely add something.

How are fees structured?

Fixed fees per package, confirmed in writing after the introductory call, rather than open-ended hourly billing. Student packages can be paid in two instalments. Commissioned company work is quoted per project against an agreed scope.

Can you work with clients outside India?

Yes. The practice is registered in India and works with clients across Europe and the Middle East as well. Sessions run online, applications and written work are handled remotely, and scheduling is arranged around your time zone.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. Documents, CVs, and any company material shared with the practice are treated as confidential and are not passed on. Non-disclosure agreements can be signed for commissioned work.
